Psychotherapy FAQs

Q: How do I get started?

A: Find me on the provider list on HelloAlma.com. There you can send me a message to request a 20-minute phone consultation to determine if I'm able to provide what you're looking for and to discuss availability and scheduling. At the end of the call it looks like a good match, we can schedule the intake appointment.

Q: Do you take insurance?

Yes, I am credentialed with Aetna, Anthem/Blue Cross, Cigna, and United.

Q: Do you accept private pay and what is the cost per session? My standard rate is $225 per session or $800 for 4 sessions if the total is paid upfront at the beginning of the month.

Q: Do you provide in-person sessions?

A: Not at this time but I hope to resume in-person treatment later this year.

Q: Do you prescribe medication?

A: No. Only professionals with a medical license can prescribe medicine.

Q: How often are therapy sessions?

A: At least once per week.

Q: Can I meet every other week?

A: No, therapy is most beneficial with consistent, weekly sessions.

Q: What is your cancellation/reschedule policy? Is it possible to reschedule sessions if I can't make it at our usual time?

A: Clients are kindly asked to provide a minimum of 48-hours notice from the time of the scheduled appointment to cancel or request a different appointment for the week. For example, if we meet on Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. the client must notify the provider by 10:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. Notice of less than 48 hours will be counted as a missed session and the client will be charged a fee of $125. If the client is unable to meet at our usual time, he/she/they are welcome to ask the provider if there is another time available for that week. However, we can't guarantee that another time will be available.

Q: What happens if I am running late?

A: We all have busy lives and sometimes unexpected things happen. If you are running a few minutes late, please text me to let me know. However, if you are going to be more than 20 minutes late it will count as a missed session and you will be charged the $125 late cancelation fee.

Q: How long does therapy last?

A: That varies from person to person. Some people may seek therapy to address a specific goal such as overcoming a fear of flying. In those cases, treatment might be relatively short (e.g. 6 to 8 weeks). However, in general, therapy is a process that takes time and commitment for the client and the therapist. I will regularly initiate conversations about treatment efficacy and client satisfaction and invite you to do the same.

Q: What is your theoretical orientation?

A: My orientation is primarily psychodynamic and attachment focused. I also incorporate somatic-sensory exercises and interventions. To learn more about these approaches to therapy, please find links in the Resources section.
